Hollywood Hills Neighborhoods

Often, the Hollywood Hills are talked about as one central entity.  To say you live in the Hollywood Hills is – for many people – enough of a description.  Some go so far as calling the Hollywood Hills a “neighborhood.”  This is pretty far from the truth, as there are areas throughout the Hollywood Hills with entirely different flavors.  Think of the difference of a Hollywood Hills home with a view of the valley, as compared to a Hills home with a view of L.A. proper – a significant difference.

No one’s really going to argue that Laurel Canyon and Mulholland Drive are the same.  What makes Los Angeles such a unique city is that it has no one centralized location – it’s like a collection of many towns.  A place like Venice has very little to do with Beverly Hills.  Of course the differences in the Hollywood Hills aren’t quite that stark, but there are significant differences in the Hills between the different areas, and these differences will determine where you shop for a home.

The major Hollywood Hills neighborhoods are: Mulholland Drive, Laurel Canyon, Beachwood Canyon, Nichols Canyon, and Mount Olympus.  Technically the Hollywood Hills encompass areas further down into Hollywood, as Hollywood gets progressively steeper along the mountainside as you head east.  But when people speak of the Hollywood Hills, they’re mainly speaking of the areas north of Sunset – isolated from the urban lifestyle of Hollywood.

Though the Hollywood Hills have higher-priced real estate than other parts of L.A. – rivaling Bel-Air and Beverly Hills – not all neighborhoods are priced the same, so this is something to consider when shopping for a home in this fabled area of Los Angeles.
